Introduction

WastExpert is a user friendly mobile app to streamline the waste collection and promote environment sustainability. It integrates smart technology, with a user-friendly mobile application, to empower residents to schedule pickups, locate smart bins, and report waste. Features such as optimized collection routes and real-time monitoring reduce environmental impact and operational inefficiencies while promoting sustainable practices.

Understand the problem

Sri Lanka's waste management faces challenges like inefficient collection, inadequate disposal, and pollution, exacerbated by urbanization and population growth. Existing systems lack optimization, resulting in health and ecological concerns. WasteExpert addresses these issues with smart bins, route optimization, and community participation to create a more sustainable and effective solution.

Identifying the users

The primary users of WasteExpert are residents. They can schedule pickups, locate nearby smart bins, and report waste through the app.

Goals

The primary goal of WasteExpert is to improve waste management efficiency and foster community participation. Key objectives include optimizing collection routes, preventing overflowing bins, enhancing community engagement, facilitating waste sorting, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Design Process

Before designing solutions for WasteExpert, I analyzed similar waste management apps to identify strengths and user pain points. This was followed by sketching wireframes and developing prototypes through iterative feedback with the team. By integrating features like optimized navigation, smart bin mapping, and a rewards system, I prioritized creating a seamless and intuitive user experience. Continuous testing and revisions ensured the design aligned with user needs and project goals.

Wireframes

To visualize the design concepts for WasteExpert, I created digital wireframes and shared them with the team for feedback. This iterative process involved exploring various layout and feature options to ensure the most user-friendly and efficient solution. Multiple refinements were made based on team input to finalize the ideal structure.

Color Palette

The color palette for WasteExpert was chosen to reflect the app's environmental and sustainable goals, promoting trust and cleanliness. After experimenting with various combinations, a clean, eco-friendly palette dominated by shades of green was chosen, that resonates with users and promotes environmental responsibility.
